Change the file attributes that the Finder won't let you touch:
- file modification and creation date and time
- adjust the Exchangeable Image File (EXIF capture) time & date that JPEG pictures were shot to compensate for time zones or incorrectly set digital camera clocks
- visualize or remove invisible files
- set the file creation date to the time that a digital camera picture was taken
- lock or unlock the file (prevents the name and the contents of the file to be modified.
- add, modify or remove the Mac OS 9-style creator & type codes
- show or hide the file extension for individual files
- set Finder color labels
Digital camera owners use A Better Finder Attributes to adjust photo shooting or creation dates, to compensate for incorrectly set camera clocks or incorrect sorting in the Finder.
Digital media professionals and web masters give their media the finishing touches before uploading them to web servers or burning them on CD or DVD by removing unsightly invisible files, Mac OS legacy creator and type codes and by setting the files' creation and modification dates to appropriate values.
System administrators and developers remove invisible files before checking them into into version control or document management systems, or before placing them on shared Unix, Linux or Windows network servers.
Your way or the high way
You can use A Better Finder Attributes as a stand-alone application, dragging & dropping files onto the application icon or directly into the file list window. Alternatively you can use it straight from the Finder using either the context menu or the command-control-A hot key combination.
All the information you need, when you need it
The file list window shows you the currently selected files along with the attributes you are about to change. The file list can be attached to the main dialog or detached into a separate window.
When you use the separate file list window, you can dock it to the right hand side of the main dialog so that it will move along with the main window. The file list window is naturally fully re-sizable.
Digital photographyEXIF
A Better Finder Attributes knows about the embedded shooting date of modern digital camera picture files.
Most of today's photo management solutions (including iPhoto) use the Exchangeable Image File (EXIF) capture date to sort pictures by time.
Amateur and professional photographers alike occasionally find that their camera's clock is set to the wrong time or (especially when traveling) the wrong time zone.
Moreover, professionals often use a variety of cameras for the same shoot and need compensating for out-of-sync camera clocks.
A Better Finder Attributes supports two EXIF-related operations:
- batch adjust the EXIF capture date and time in JPEG files
- batch set EXIF capture date and time in JPEG files
- change the file creation date of your JPEG, CRW, CR2, THM, NEF, digital camera TIFF, RAF, ORF, MRW, SRF, PEF and DNG format files to reflect their capture time rather than the moment they were imported onto your Mac
A Better Finder Attributes does NOT currently support the modification of shooting dates in any formats other than JPEG.
Installation à la carte
Simply drag & drop the application icon to your hard disk to install it.
You can choose the optional components you wish to install, the first time you launch the tool. You may naturally change the configuration at any time from the preferences menu. The optional components include the context menu plug-in, the Finder hot key and the System Preferences pane. Uninstall simply by removing the components using the preferences menu and trashing the application.
