Dear Alastair,

I've actually moved on from the 3 monitor setup.. now there's a 30" Apple cinema display in the middle, a 21.3" Samsung in portrait mode on its left (on its original stand) and the ergotron LX stand with two portrait mode 21.3" Samsungs on the right.

This gives a viewing parabola of approximate 6 feet across. I use the 30" for most immediate tasks (programming, writing) and the three portrait mode monitors for specific apps and support documentation.

The Mail.app application lives in the right most monitor because so much of my work is based on around email (support, bug reports, coordination with contractors, etc.)

The portrait mode monitor on the left of the 30" display, hosts a full size terminal window, OmniPlan (a to-do list manager), Yojimbo (my reference database) and Typinator.

I also use for the documentation window in XCode and it's probably the most used "second" monitor.

The left most monitor is rather underused because it's quite far away due to the western "left-to-right" writing bias. It often has the debugger window in or a second source of documentation or reference information.

The 30" screen is great, but you could say it's a little TOO wide. One of the great things about multiple monitors is that you just put a window into a particular monitor and then save yourself the entire window resizing and repositioning work. On a 30" that does not work so well.

Its height is perfect as it is exactly the same physical size and resolution as the portrait mode 21.3" monitors, but cutting off a few inches width wise would shorten the gap between the side monitors which would actually be a good thing.

As to photos.. no way! I'd have to clear my desk or die of shame!

Actually I'm very interested in how you solved your cable troubles - let us know, and post up a pic of the final if you can.

Thanks for the informative review. Because of it, I have made the purchase. Sounds like Ergotron is a top-notch company, one I'm keen to support!

Thanks for a good review; I linked to this from my "Ergonomics Recommendations" page (my.galagzee.com/ergonomics) that also discusses multiple monitor setups.

I have one 24" hd lcd monitor and two identical 19" lcd 4:3 monitors. What would be my best mounting arm solution for these. Must all the triple desk stand have three identical sized monitors. Would i best using a dual monitor arm for the two side 19" monitors and having the 24£ on the desk
