Patrick Cheatham on the “Renaming from file list” feature
“Rename from file list” is the A Better Finder Rename feature that I love to hate most.
It’s not for the faint of heart, but it opens up the tool to integration with databases, spreadsheets, etc, etc.
The idea is that you get your new file names from somewhere outside of the program and use the tool to preview and apply those new names. If you need this type of functionality it can be a real life-saver.
The reason I hate it is that it is by its very nature far more complicated than the rest of A Better Finder Rename. For many casual computer users, it’s too complicated and the source of much frustration..
I have been planning to write a tutorial on how to use file lists properly for some time now, but why bother if your customers’ are doing it for you?
Today, Patrick Cheatham has been so kind as to publish his own real-life account of using file lists on his blog:

I hope you’ll find it as interesting and enlightening as I did.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Patrick!
