The Soft Break Feature
Time slices are of limited duration for a reason, and you should generally speaking try to keep to the length that you have settled on before starting the time slice.
It can, however, be jarrying to be interrupted by a break when you are right in the middle of something and just need a few more seconds to finish.
Vitamin-R offers two kinds of breaks:
- “Hard Breaks” start as soon as the time slice has elapsed
- “Soft Breaks” give you an additional 30 seconds to finish off what you were doing and only start once you stop typing or moving your mouse.
If you use soft breaks, the end of the scheduled time slice is announced by two tick sounds (or by two screen flashes if you have sounds turned off). Vitamin-R then enters into a special mode where it waits for you to stop moving your mouse or typing for 3 consecutive seconds before it starts the break. Once Vitamin-R detects your inactivity or the 30 seconds run out, a tock sound (or another screen flash) announces the end of the time slice.
Soft breaks are turned on by default as they offer a better solution for most people. You can, however, switch them off (or re-enable them) in Vitamin-R 3 ⇒ Preferences ⇒ Workflow
