New In Version 4
Version 4 concentrates on the following areas:
- vastly improved keyboard accessibility via the command pop-up
- delivering an (optional) vastly more compact user interface
- (optional) dock-less operation
- log book editing, adding and deletion of entries
- quality of life improvements
Command Pop-Up
Just tab Control-R from anywhere within the program itself or any other application to bring up the Command Pop-Up
window to reach pretty much any program function. You can now use Vitamin-R entirely from your keyboard by just
remembering this single keyboard shortcut.
Compact User Interface
Each one of Vitamin-R’s screens can be extensively customized by clicking on the popup button at the right of the
section titles, or by exploring the State-Specific Options section of the Command Pop-Up.
Version 4 adds more compact options for most user interface elements (e.g. half-height objective field, a duration slider
without further adornments, etc.) an introduces new Always resize window to keep it as compact as possible and
Resize window to keep it compact as long as sidebar is closed options.
The Pre-Defined Profiles screen allows you to fully configure the entire interface to be as compact as possible, or
(which might be initially useful) to Prefer a Balanced Interface or Use a More Verbose Interface at the Beginning.
Whichever one you choose, you can always re-run the Profile selection with Control-R -> Re-Run Profile Selection to
get an interface that suits your needs and preferences.
Log Book
Up to version 4, you could edit the logs manually in application like TextEdit. Starting in version 4, you can
edit entries, add them (to log time slices you might not have used Vitamin-R for), and delete them right inside
the Vitamin-R log book pad.
Quality of Life Improvements:
There are many recurring feature requests that version 4 addresses:
- new icons and color coded screen title make it much easier to see which “state” you are currently in
- you can now choose how much time is shown in the duration slider: three quarters of an hour, one hour, an hour and a half or two hours
- many graphical tweaks to fully take advantage of macOS’s dark mode controls
- own keyboard shortcuts framework to eliminate the need for asking for “input monitoring”
- Vitamin-R uses its notification widgets as macOS’s notifications have become less effective
- mini versions of some controls to allow for a more compact layout
