Objective Parsing
- Objective Parsing (3m)
This features makes it much easier to manage your task lists within the application, or indeed outside of it.
Vitamin-R 4 can parse arbitrary text to set its current objective, the duration for the time slice and any tags that you might want to add.
The format is always:
- a textual description
, - two or more digits followed by
m,minorminutes, - one or more tags, each tag starting with
@
A few examples:
Upload latest video, 12 min, @youtube, @social
or
Upload latest video, 12m
or
Upload latest video, @youtube, @social
Both the duration and the tags are optional.
You can thus keep a list of your time slices for the day in any text editor, be it the built-in Later Pad, in:
- a plain-text editor such as BBEdit, TextMate, Nova, Sublime Text,
- a word processing app like Microsoft Word, Apple Pages, Simple Text,
- a note taking app like Apple Notes, Notion, Evernote,
- an online todo list manager,
- outliners, etc.
If you are working in a third party application, just copy the text to the clipboard, press Control-R to bring up
the Command Pop Up and start typing Parse Clipboard & Set Objective
until you see the right option, then tap the Return key to set the objective, duration & tags.
If you have typed the objective into the Later Pad, or the Scratch Pad, you can just select the text and select
Parse Selected Text & Set Objective in the command pop up.
You can also use objective parsing in the Objective Field. Just type the objective, the duration and the tags into
the objective field and select Parse Objective.
All 3 options are also available in the Edit menu and have pre-defined keyboard shortcuts:
