The Rename
What is Automatic File Name Conflict Resolution?
When a rename would give two files the same name, Better Rename adds a distinguisher such as (1) or (a). How it works and how to preview it.
Better Rename automatically resolves file name conflicts by adding one or more “distinguisher” characters at the end of the conflicting file names.
Let’s say you remove the last digit from the following file names:
Image1112.gifImage1113.gif
The new file names would become:
Image111.gifImage111.gif
which isn’t possible because within each folder only one file can have a particular name.
In this case, Better Rename resolves the conflict by adding a distinguisher to the end of the file names:
Image111 (a).gifImage111 (b).gif
You can configure exactly how file name conflicts are resolved.
The conflict resolution is, by definition, applied as the last step in the process, so you can’t change the distinguisher text that it produces by using other actions.
