Quick Start Guide

This is the manual for Version 7 of A Better Finder Rename. For the Version 8 manual, select "A Better Finder Rename Help" in the "Help" menu of the application.

A Better Finder Rename 7 is a tool that allows you to rename large numbers of files quickly and without fuss.

It is especially interesting for:

  • webmasters
  • digital camera owners
  • graphic arts practitioners
  • and anybody else who often works with large collections of files.

The program offers many different renaming features, different ways of selecting the files that need to be renamed, different modes of operation, etc.

This manual is designed to explain in detail how to use the program to its full potential.

If you have not yet installed the program, download it from the download page, then follow the instructions on the installation page.

You can use the program in many different ways,the movie above illustrates the most common usage scenario

  1. launch the program by double-clicking its icon
  2. select the files you wish to rename in the Finder
  3. drag & drop them into the preview window
  4. adjust the settings on the left while previewing them on the right
  5. Click "OK"
  6. Check one last time, then confirm

The "Action:" menu contains all the different renaming actions that you can apply to the current file names, these include adding, removing, converting or replacing text, sequence numbers, etc..
