What are the different “Modes” all about?

For most daily use, you can just stay in Normal mode. In it, you can navigate through the header hierarchy of your current markdown file, append items, switch files, add and remove files, create new files from templates, etc.

Sometimes, though, it can also be useful to navigate directly to any item in the Markdown file by typing it, and then make changes in the editor instead of using an append command. That’s what Navigation mode is for. In it, you can navigate through the entire hierarchy of the Markdown file, not just the headers, but also including all its individual text, bullet, numbered list items. As soon as you press Return, the built-in editor will open at the right place.

Copy & Paste Modes

One advanced use for Burst Notes is to store text snippets in it that you can copy directly to the clipboard and paste into any app you want. In Copy mode, you can navigate through the entire markdown hierarchy in the same manner as in the navigation mode, but when you press Return, instead of opening the editor at the right point, the program places the selected content on the clipboard, ready for you to paste it into any open app.

The Paste mode directly pastes the selected item into the open app, so you can use Burst Notes like a snippet clipboard manager.

Switching between Modes

You can see what the current mode is by looking on the label at the bottom right of the command window.
