Troubleshooting
Migrating from Version 11
Move presets, droplets and action lists from A Better Finder Rename 11 to version 12 with the File › Migrate commands; settings must be set up again.
Version 12 installs alongside version 11 and the two can be used side by side. Version 12 starts in trial mode until it is unlocked with a version 12 code.
Presets
Choose File › Migrate Presets. The program looks in the version 11 presets folder and copies the presets it finds
into version 12. It reports which folder it migrated from. Running the migration twice produces an error for the
presets that already exist, which is harmless.
If your presets are somewhere else, export them from version 11 and import them in version 12.
Droplets
Droplets created with versions 9, 10 or 11 keep opening in the version they were created with. To move them to
version 12, choose File › Migrate Droplets to Latest Version… and select the droplets; they are updated in place.
To turn a droplet into a preset, choose File › Migrate Droplet to Preset… and select the
droplet. The preset then appears in the Presets menu and in the Presets tab of the Advanced Sidebar.
See Droplets in macOS 15 Sequoia or later if macOS reports a migrated droplet as damaged.
Action lists
The action list in the Advanced Sidebar is not meant to store your frequently used actions. If you have been using it that way, save the actions in version 11 as a preset, export it and import it into version 12.
Settings
Settings are not migrated. Open the Settings window in version 12 and set it up again.
