The Image Dimensions category adds the pixel width and height of images to their names, which is useful when the same picture exists in several sizes.

  • Rename to image dimensions replaces the whole name with the pattern, e.g. 1920x1080.jpg
  • Add image dimensions to beginning and Add image dimensions to end: banner.png → banner_1920x1080.png
  • Insert image dimensions in front of existing text, Insert image dimensions after existing text and Insert image dimensions at position put the dimensions inside the name

Pattern: is made up of a text field for what comes before the dimensions (_ by default), a popup for the first dimension (Width or Height), the separator (x by default), the second dimension and a text field for what comes after. Files that are not images, or whose dimensions cannot be read, keep their name unchanged. The Image/Video tab of the info pane shows the dimensions the program found. For other image meta-data such as the camera model or the shooting date, use the tag actions.

Example

A logo was exported in several sizes as logo.png, logo@2x.png and logo@3x.png, and the sizes should be visible in the Finder.

  1. Choose Add image dimensions to end
  2. Leave Pattern: at its defaults: _ before the dimensions, Width, x, Height and nothing after

The files become logo_100x40.png, logo@2x_200x80.png and logo@3x_300x120.png. Type a space instead of _ to get logo 100x40.png.
