A Better Finder Rename has well over a hundred actions in fifteen categories. The Command Window finds the right one by typing instead of browsing the Category: and Action: popup menus.

Finding an action by typing

  1. Click the magnifying glass button next to the Category: popup, or choose Window › Show Command Window… (Shift-Command-A)
  2. Start typing, e.g. lower, number or exif. The list narrows down to the actions whose name, category or common synonyms match
  3. Use the ↑ and ↓ keys to choose an entry and press Return. The action becomes the current action with its settings shown below the popups

Press Escape to close the Command Window without choosing an action.

Moving between the actions of a multi-step rename

In a multi-step rename, Edit › Next Action (Command-↓) and Edit › Previous Action (Command-↑) switch between the actions in the Advanced Sidebar without using the mouse.

Edit › Reset Current Action to Defaults (Command-D) puts the settings of the current action back to their defaults.

See Keyboard shortcuts for the complete list.
