The Alphabetical Sequences category is the sequence number family with letters: A, B, C, … and AA, AB, … once the alphabet runs out.

  • Produce alphabetical list replaces the whole name, e.g. Appendix A.pdf, Appendix B.pdf, …
  • Add alphabetical sequence at beginning and Add alphabetical sequence to end
  • Insert alphabetical sequence in front of existing text, Insert alphabetical sequence after existing text and Insert alphabetical sequence at position

Padding: is the minimum number of letters; shorter sequences are filled with leading As. Start with:, Step value:, Sort first:, Then: and Sort each folder separately work as for sequence numbers, and Produce alphabetical list also has Prefix: and Suffix:.

Example

The appendices of a report, budget.pdf, risks.pdf and timeline.pdf, should be lettered in the alphabetical order of their current names.

  1. Choose Produce alphabetical list
  2. Enter Appendix (with a space at the end) in Prefix: and 1 in Padding:
  3. Set Sort first: to By name (from A to Z)

The files become Appendix A.pdf, Appendix B.pdf and Appendix C.pdf. With 2 in Padding: they would be Appendix AA.pdf, Appendix AB.pdf, …, which keeps long series sorted correctly past Z.
