A while ago, macOS 11 Big Sur introduced a new visual style to macOS. More recently, macOS 26 Tahoe did the same thing again. While Big Sur grew on me, and I'm sure (eventually) Tahoe will, the transparent menu bar is a bit of a legibility nightmare and not something I can live with. So I developed Boring Old Menu Bar to bring the "perfectly fine" macOS Catalina menu bar.
The Catalina menu bar is perfectly fine, but white looks better in the light mode.. and while I'm at it why not add more options?
Should Apple have gone for rounded screen corners to complete the iPad-esque look? Judge yourself.
Boring Old Menu Bar is brought to you by a development team with over 20 years of Mac software development experience, and is based on the very latest platform technologies.
Boring Old Menu Bar delivers the opaque menu bar and the rounded corners you're after. However, it is still essentially a hack that takes a screenshot of your current wallpaper and superimposes an opaque menu bar on it automatically. It works almost perfectly, almost all of the time.
There is a complete setup guide for each scenario on the troubleshooting page.
